History
The Fund has been organized in memory of Amber Pizzo who lost her life on July 18, 2005 when she was struck by an automobile driven by an impaired driver. Amber was beginning a career in pre-school and elementary education. The parents of her young students speak lovingly of Amber's genuine caring and concern for their children. Because of Amber's love for those children, her loss was mourned as deeply by their parents as it was by her family and friends.

In honor of Amber's love of teaching young children, The Amber Pizzo Memorial Fund was conceived to award scholarships in accordance with the following criteria:

1) One scholarship will be awarded each calendar year to a graduating senior at Governor Livingston High School (GLHS) in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.  The senior will have been accepted to a fully accredited U.S. college or university, and will be planning to major in pre-school or elementary education.

2) Applicants are asked to submit an application form.  Application forms will be distributed through the GLHS guidance office and are also available on this website.

3) Recipients will be selected based upon a brief essay, teacher recommendation and recommendation of other community members.

4) It is the intent of the Fund to award one (1) $1,000.00 scholarship per year.  However, depending on the amounts of money available in the Fund that amount may be increased in any given year.

In addition to the annual scholarship award and depending on the amounts of money available to it, the Fund may also make annual contributions to the Berkeley Heights (NJ) Rescue Squad and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Our long-term goal is to build the principal balance to create a perpetual fund, making distributions from income. In the short term, distributions will be made from both principal and interest.

Amber’s spirit lives in each and every one of us who knew her.  The idea of carrying on Amber’s passion for teaching young children is what drives us to build her Fund into an organization that is truly committed to helping others pursue a career in pre-school education. Thank you for helping us to accomplish so much. Contributions can be mailed to:
