Amber PizzoMission Statement
Working in conjunction with service agencies, faith-based organizations and the NJ-DOC, the Foundation funds educational programs in an effort to reduce the incidence of alcohol related fatalities in Union County and throughout the State. The Foundation also provides annual scholarships to high school graduates who are planning to major in early childhood education.

History
The Amber Pizzo Memorial Foundation serves to honor the memory of a young teacher who died after being struck by an automobile driven by a drunk driver.   Amber loved young people and she knew the difference a good education could make in their lives.  Now the Foundation seeks to continue the work Amber began but was unable to finish after her life was suddenly and tragically ended.
Initially the Foundation sought to fund educational programs in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities throughout NJ.  This continues to be an important part of the Foundation’s goal, but it is by no means how we want Amber to be remembered.   Amber was a committed advocate for the educational needs of our youth who will be our leaders tomorrow.

Therefore in the coming year, The Amber Pizzo Foundation will:

  • Continue to support programs that promote responsible driving habits while teaching the deadly consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and other mind drugs.
  • Run the “4th  Annual Public Service Announcement Video Contest”. The winning videos will be distributed free to all local Television stations and be uploaded to the Amber Pizzo Foundation web site. The winning school will be awarded a $1000 grant for their media department. A 2nd place grant of $500 and a 3rd place grant of $250 will also be awarded.
  • Students and/or their parents will be invited to recommend teachers who have made a positive impact on an individual student or class. We want to support and encourage our teachers because they do make a difference. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place grants will be awarded to those teachers who are chosen by a committee of community leaders.
  • Continue our role as Victim Assistance Advocate for MADD-NJ.

The Amber Pizzo Memorial Foundation is seeking to make our community a better place to live and to raise our children.  You can help by becoming a sponsor of the Foundation. Together we can make this a safer, healthier and better place for all.
